Pierre- Joseph Redouté is a botanical artist famous for his watercolour depictions of roses and lilies. He worked with some of the best botanists of the time and was lucky to have as his patrons first Marie Antoinette and later Josephine Bonaparte. Pierre-Joseph Redoute contributed to over fifty publications, and produced work illustrating over 1,800 species of plants, some of which had never been artistically depicted before.
